Tracey Kennedy

Meet Power Player: Tracey Kennedy, Founder of California Country Organics

Meet  Tracey Kennedy!

I met this energetic, bold, creative and yes, sometimes outrageous woman on Instagram in the comment section a few months back. She was so hilarious in her comments, I had to check out her page.  I knew she was a new author, so I invited her on my show.  Let’s just say,  it’s probably the first time I was at a loss for words or blushed on an episode.  Tracey does not hold back. LOL

You can hear the full episode about her juicy novel based on her robust single life and online dating escapades.  Read on get to know more about her natural skincare products called California Country Organics.

What products do you create?

Books and body care.

What inspired you to start it? What problem do you help customers solve?

Honestly, my body care company started accidentally.  I was a lonely stay- at-home mom with a culinary background and endless time on my hands.  I ended up creating an entire line for my family.  Word got out, and next thing you know, people were sending me memes that said, “Shut Up and take my money!”  So, that’s what I did!  I took their money, invested in some jars, labels, raw material, and next thing you know; California Country Organics is born.

With the slogan of, “Love Yourself Organically,” I took it seriously.  I began genuinely evaluating my life and my purpose.  I saw how unhappy I was in my marriage and within myself.  How could I promote self love, when I didn’t know how to love myself?  I left my marriage, had a coming to Jesus moment with myself and wrote a hysterically funny and poetic memoir of a Black woman’s journey of self love.

What have been some challenges?

Challenges?  How much time do I have to play the world’s smallest violin for you?  HA!  From acknowledging repressed childhood trauma, abusive divorce, being held at gunpoint, almost committing suicide, heartbreak, hitting rock bottom, and a GLOBAL SHUTDOWN… The past four years has been nothing but hurdles.  Those hurdles helped strengthen me to my core, however.  I can run any race now, confidently knowing, I’m always going to win.

What skills have you used to pull it all together?

What’s funny is, we tend to think of physical attributes or academic skills when we think about moving forward in life.  For me and a few others, the path to success and feeling whole has been the development of emotional and spiritual skills.  Learning how to connect with people on a genuine human level has propelled me so much further in life.  It’s hard to focus on negativity when you spend so much time focused on all the joy and blessings that surround you.

What are your main keys to being successful in business?

1. Know how to sell yourself.

2. Never give up on yourself.

3. Know your purpose.

Favorite me time escape?

Working in my garden!  I have cultivated over 200 varieties of flowers, herbs, and produce in my yard.  Everywhere you turn, there’s something edible.  It brings absolute joy in my life.

What would you like your legacy to be?

I want to be remembered as the quirky, pint-sized cavewoman, who genuinely worked to stay humble, kind, and unapologetically free.  I want to people to know, I held value in God and the ancestors, pushing myself to consistently be inspiration to be light to anyone that will take to time to listen.

Any last words of advice for an entrepreneur just starting out?

You don’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea.  You only need to be yourself.
