Oh, I had a blast at the Own Your Power Biz Conference on September 18, 2010 at Columbia University. The theme was Getting Personal with your Biz! From the dynamic panel of speakers to the attentive audience, we learned SO much in one day.

Dr. Randal Pinkett was our captivating keynote speaker who had us all taking notes feverishly! He reminded us that when you work for yourself, it’s not easy like some might imagine. But with planning and team work, anything is attainable!  He focused on how important it is to really take a step back and examine your business.  Dr. Pinkett emphasized how important it is to look within, look around and then look back, so that you can do a better job next time and LOOK FORWARD. As the founder of a MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR company, you better believe we were listening!
He showed us different ways to look at our businesses and to not be afraid to share the wealth and team up with someone who can help you such as creating joint ventures, mergers, etc. Look at how you can consolidate your resources with others to make it a win/win for all is what he urged.

Which leads me to another quote that was said in the “Show Me the Money” panel. Franklin Madison of ITAC mentioned, “No one will give you money if you’re by yourself.” Investors will not feel secure if you are a one man/woman operation. They want to see that you have a strong and intelligent team backing you. I think that was a wake up call for folks when they heard that line!
