My recent trip to Dallas was such an eye-opening experience for me and it really brought everything that I’ve done since the start of my career full circle. Many of you probably are familiar with Own Your Power Communications because of our blog, yearly retreats and conferences, The Give ‘n Take Network (www.giventakenetwork.org), or our online community (www.ownyourpower.ning.com).

What few people know is that my passion of bringing people together to empower them, connect, share and inspire community started in my very own living room, back in Yonkers, New York. I would teach a small business boot camp workshop to my friends who wanted to become entrepreneurs… (It’s how I got the nickname Sergeant Simi) LOL.  I’d also teach a class on self-discovery or self-love. Another friend would teach yoga, another friend would give facials or massages. Whatever their talent was, they’d bring it and share and we’d have our own retreat.

Soon we moved it to a monthly escape in the Pocono Mountains and then in 2003 I hosted my very first retreat in the Pocono’s called the Gots To Have it Getaway…fast forward a few years and the Own Your Power  quarterly workshops, Own Your Power Retreat, and Own Your Power Conferences, and the Circle of Power coaching group  were birthed!

I love big events, but I’ve been recently craving intimate gatherings where people feel even more comfortable. Where there is no mic, no podium, and no stage.  Only a floor pillow and your favorite jeans required.  I have clusters of clients in various cities and I haven’t met at least 70% of them since I coach on the phone. So, I launched my first event in Dallas to bring the “OYP lifestyle movement” to their friends and family!

Well, I was elated to meet these women who truly connected with me on a deep level. To  hear stories of before and after coaching transformations really knocked my socks off! I was so pleased at their success and after hearing these stories, I must admit there was a lot of Kleenex being passed around.

Below is a manifesto I wrote a year ago.  It’s a combination of things I’ve discovered during my 36 years on the planet and the words of some wise, wise women–Heathyre, Tazima, Takeyah, Simone,  Ayo, and more.

Living Well

Living well is about having the healthiest body, mind and spirit that you can have.  Health is important because health promotes longevity and with longevity comes wisdom.  Living well is also knowing that happiness is not something you’re supposed to strive for.  It’s something you’re supposed to let in.

Connection

Find ways to reconnect with your authentic self.  Become your own favorite subject and find ways to turn yourself on.

When we connect with ourselves, we realize that we are the nature we have been looking for.  We are the nature wherever we are.  We are air.  We are earth.  We are fire. We are water.  But as long as we don’t know that, we will be synthetic and technology will be more attractive than unifying with the divine and tuning in to our own psychic abilities.

Every living and non-living thing has a story.  We are a bunch of interconnected stories, interacting and reinforcing each other. Don’t merely try to connect with another person, realize that the connection is already there.

Recognize that every relationship is an incredible opportunity for you to grow. Learn how to tune in to yourself and watch the quality of your relationships transform.  When you acknowledge your desires and tap into your juiciness, you will find a partner who supports you in doing so.

Authenticity=Internal+external congruency

Figure out what your core values are.  Then let everything you do be an extension of those values.  Your values will help you establish standards.  When you have standards in place, it is easier to make decisions about what is happening in your life.  As a result, you won’t go through your days doing things that are radically different from your vision of them.

Purpose

We have a purpose that we were born into this life to do.  There’s only one person who can deliver that special gift to the world.  That person is you.

Success is about much more than having the job, the car, the house, the husband and cash.  Those things are fleeting.  Create a new definition of success that is based on something more permanent, but less tangible.  As you redefine what success means keep in mind that you are much more than what you do to earn a living.  Also, it is possible for you to earn your kale and quinoa by living the fullest expression of yourself.

Inner Knowing

You are the sole expert on who you are and what you should be doing at any given moment in time.  Instead of listening to what goes on externally come within and see what’s going on in there.  In accepting responsibility for your life, you lose the ability to blame other people when things go wrong.  Also, no one else gets the credit when things go right.

Trust is truth in action.  Start walking and the path will appear. Your internal compass will guide you and the divine will nudge you back on track if you get stuck.

Junk any form of media that makes you feel fearful, anxious or inadequate. Have propaganda which supports your ideals and your purpose rather than allowing someone to come in and dump garbage in your living room.

Learn Your Triggers and Fun Mental Exercises To Develop Your Intuition!

What would it be like if your higher awareness was running your life? I bet you’d improve your health, finance, relationships, family and career! In part one, I shared how many of us receive messages to guide us or we ignore them and regret it later. It’s truly all about trusting yourself and believing that what you’re getting is right. Once you get more in tuned with who you are, you’ll pay attention to your patterns and live life with EYES WIDE OPEN…meaning opening  your third eye as well.

START TO LEARN YOUR TRIGGERS

Here are several popular ones that most people get. You may have another one to add, but the key is spending time learning YOURSELF so that you are aware when they happen.

• Goosebumps: This is definitely one of my top triggers. Usually after I say something that is spot on, I get goosebumps. For me, it’s a good trigger, a confirmation. For you, it might mean something else. My clients laugh at me all the time, since I say that “I just goosebumps, so you know what  that means!”
• Stomach: squirmy feeling, butterflies, churning, there are all types of feelings you might get in your belly. Pay attention!
• Voice in head: You might hear your own voice, you might hear your mother’s voice, etc…but take note to the messages you get. If you start answering back to the voice, then I suggest some counseling. This article doesn’t go that deep. LOL
• Dreams: My favorite dream dictionary -hands down is swoon.com. If you have vivid dreams, have a notebook by your bedside and write them down the second you wake up before you forget the key elements. You know by time you brush your teeth, it’s…POOF! GONE!  So, write it down right away.
• Reading people’s energy—how you feel when speaking with someone. Their body language, eye contact or lack of it. Come on, we usually know when someone isn’t who they say they are or kind of shifty!  (Always ask yourself ‘Do I like, trust and respect them?’)

You might get one of these triggers or all of the above.

I hope by now you know that the myth about intuition is that you must be gifted, it’s some special power, and that only a select few have it. The truth is WE ALL HAVE IT. The question is…do you choose to ignore your power and suffer the consequences or embrace your power and live  life at full awareness?

How Can Your Intuition Help You?

• Getting a job
• It can help you from staying or leaving a relationship.
• Business deals
• Starting a new partnership
• Spending money on something that might be worth it.
• Traveling

We’re trained to be logical and if it’s hard to explain then it just can’t “be”. Well, the unexplainable gut reactions will save you in the long run!

Here are some fun exercises you can use to improve your “third eye” and gain your confidence in following your gut. Find a friend or family member to play with!  You can try it daily for a week and you’ll see an improvement. Get ready because you might shock yourself!

Before you do the exercises, try deep breathing for a few moments and also meditate for 5-15 minutes if you have time. Learn more about mediation here!

Intuition games

1.     Guess what I have on—via phone: Close your eyes and try to figure out what color your friend has on, what patterns if you see them, and if you really want to show off…what kind of material is it? Denim, cotton, silk, etc..

2.     Guess what time it is: Pretty simple, before looking at the clock, guess the exact time. You probably do this already and don’t even think of it as a big deal. 

3.     Guess who is calling you: No cheating! This is before you look at caller ID!

4.     Guess a song or artist is on radio before you turn it on.

5.     Magazine game: Have your friend hold a magazine or book and guess what color it is, who is on the cover, what mood does it bring you. (I’m just letting you know. This one freaks me out all the time. Lol)

6.     My favorite!: Guess what photo is in the envelope—sitting back to back with a person who is holding the envelope and thinking about the image inside of it.

With lots of practice you’ll see just how much you are capable of.  So, now what are you going to do wth your new-found super powers? LOL  Open up a tarot card shop? Buy a crystal ball and join the circus? Well..not quite.

You’ll  be more at ease and trusting with the feelings and images that your received.  You’ll be living life  and you won’t call things coincidences as much anymore, nor will you think you’re crazy…you will be living your life FULL OUT.

Once you see how right you can be, you’ll learn that intuition is not something magical, untouchable or something only swamis on a street  fair can use. It’s a gift we all possess. Use it…it’s there for you! Don’t be afraid of it. Remember to Own Your Power!

Hey you….yeah you. Come closer….I got a secret. Shhhhhh….

The voice in your head that told you to call  your old college roommate REALLY did help you land that new job!

That squirm that  rumbled in your belly really did tell you to move into the right lane to avoid that accident!

Those goosebumps that made the hair raise on your arms after you landed those ‘7-digits’ of  your new special friend really was confirmation that they were a catch!

What it all comes down to ladies and gentlemen is actually really, really good news! You’re not crazy! LOL And of course there are  NO coincidences.

The incidences that I mentioned, I’m sure many of you have experienced at some point in your life. Those examples are your innate triggers…confirmations if you will, to let you know just how intuitive you really are…that is, when you’re aware of it and in the flow of life.

Which leads me to introduce Own Your Power Lifestyle  Principle No. 2

Trust Your Intuition

“Learn to trust that feeling in your gut. The gut never lies! Tap into your intuition and begin to trust what messages or feelings you receive about people, situations, or your next steps. It’s a gift we all have, learn to start embracing it.  Listen, trust, and take guided action.”

What is the FEELING you get that warns or even just gives you a little ‘nudge’ telling you to WAKE UP? It’s our innate protection. When we were in the jungle, fields, and mountains as primitive humans we were in touch with our senses.  We could smell fear…We could smell our food before we hunted it.

Eric Butterworth mentions in his book, Spiritual Economics, “ In the early days of life on Earth, Homo sapiens were surrounded by great beasts with superb built-in defenses: tusks, hides, claws, wings, shells and tremendous brute strength. The human creatures, seemingly so inadequate, so helpless, survived because of their defense was in their creative ability, in the intuitive flow of ideas, in their spiritual dimension-no matter how primitive was its showing.”

So, what happens when you follow your gut? THINGS OPEN UP FOR YOU. Life becomes easier because, we are listening to the messages from Spirit, God, the Universe…our higher power.

Have you ever had an experience with knowing or feeling something  was going to happen?  Even something  as simple as singing a song in your head and you turn on radio and BOOM..or you’re thinking about someone and BOOM they call you. It’s not magic…you were just in tuned at that moment.

One of my biggest confirmations of following my gut happened when I was about 16 years old and it actually saved my life! I was going to go with some friends to a celebrity basketball game in the city and the  radio commercial advertising was playing probably every 30 minutes. I just felt in my spirit that it was going to be  way too crowded and I didn’t want to be bothered with the drama of long lines.  I convinced my friends to go to the movies instead. I just didn’t feel good about it at all!

On the cab ride home from the movies, we heard on the radio that nine people died in a stampede at this event.   It was tragic and many more were injured. I couldn’t blow that off as coincidence. It was more than just a guess, I KNEW it was a bad idea to go. How bad, I wasn’t prepared for. That sad event forced me to listen just a little bit deeper to how I felt about people, places, and situations!

Take Action Time:(Grab  your journals)

Take a moment and think about a time that you followed your gut and it saved you from an outcome you did not want. What happened? What did you feel or hear?

Think about a time you DIDN’T listen and you look back wishing you did! Why did you ignore it? What was the feeling that you ignored?

“For the non-spiritual being, the concept of intuition can be reduced to a hunch or a haphazard thought that accidentally pops into one’s head on occasion. For the spiritual being, intuition is far more than a hunch. It is viewed as guidance or as God talking, and this inner insight is never taken lightly or ignored.
