“Working with Simone Kelly-Brown is like a breath of fresh air. Prior to my eight-week coaching program with her I had no idea that there were other ways to develop my business and market my holistic therapy services. I am now hiring an intern to work for me, and I have a tried and true system in place for running my company so that I can delegate projects as well as manage my practice when traveling if needed. My client-base has expanded, and I am now creating new possibilities for leading large seminars, retreats, and holistic events including my music production, on a global scale. Simone truly loves what she does, and speaking with her always leaves me inspired, grateful, and able to take concrete steps towards extraordinary business success. Many Thanks!”

“My experience with Simone Kelly Brown’s 8 week course was life altering. Before I started the course, I felt like I was all over the place. I learned that you can get more things done in the course of a day if you plan it out correctly. I accomplished more than I ever thought I could in such a short period of time.  I’ve developed a newsletter, a slogan, a teleclass, just to name a few. I can see the success of my business coming to fruition! I appreciated the challenge and I now feel like I have structure. I may take the course again in the future! I highly recommend it.”

What do you think of when you hear the word “plan”? Various dictionaries give the following definitions of the word “plan”:

Plan n. (plᾰn)

  • The process of setting goals, developing strategies, and outlining tasks and schedules to accomplish the goals.
  • A basic management function involving formulation of one or more detailed plans to achieve
  • optimum balance of needs or demands with the available resources.
  • A scheme, program, or method worked out beforehand for the accomplishment of an objective
  • A proposed or tentative project or course of action
  • A systematic arrangement of elements or important parts; a configuration or outline

Each of these adds a piece of the description when it comes to a plan. My description of a plan is “A process that includes setting goals then developing the strategies, tasks, schedules and systems to accomplish objectives of related goals.” I’ve heard so many people say that planning takes too much time or even that it’s a waste of time. The truth is that planning will actually save you time, guide your actions and help you accomplish what you set out to do. There is power in the process.

Think about what happens when you have a project to work on or an event to make happen. Do you start out by creating a plan to get from point A to point B? If so, how solid is it and who is involved in the process? Do you have just an outline or are the details included? Having a plan is of the utmost importance. Planning will not only facilitate achievement of your goals, but helps you to make good decisions, will help you define opportunities and possible threats and can even help reduce risk and prevent loss. All of this becomes possible simply because you make the investment of your time and
energy to create the plan. You plan parties and other events, when it comes to business you create a plan before you start that company, especially if you’re looking for funding. Same thing when it comes to marketing, so why would you not plan your route to reaching the goals that you create?

Planning, or lack thereof, impacts other things. If you create and follow a plan, your time is spent working toward the end result. When you don’t take the time to create and follow a plan, your time is spent putting out fires, reaching unanticipated hurdles and road blocks because you didn’t see them coming, dealing with stalled efforts and the fallout that happens as a result of these things. Your time and energy are wasted instead of being spent on focused, predetermined items that get you to the prize.

When you create a plan it’s important that it be on paper and not in your head. Getting it onto paper makes it real and allows it to begin to take on life and form. In addition to your starting point and the end results, determine milestones along the way, the resources that you will need in the process and a method for monitoring and adjusting plan as well as a way to measure your results. When you look at everything that’s involved you might think that it’s a big thing and that it will take a big chunk of your time, but when you consider the things that you will run into without a plan in place you can quickly tell that having a plan will save you time, energy and discomfort in the long term along that road to your work, project of life goals. So, now, what’s your plan?

A mental cleanse is needed regularly! I would say once a month at the very least.

What is a mental cleanse, you ask?

Just like we do a cleanse or a detox for our bodies, because of all of the gook and residue from fried foods, breads, and other delicious poisons…   Our MINDS need the same break from all of the information that clouds our thoughts. We are bombarded with so much on any given day. If we take a moment to release some of the extra ‘mind clutter’ , we’ll see an amazing difference.

Picture this  typical day….

You wake up and you’re feeling wonderful from a good night’s rest,  but then you get a text message from your girlfriend who is always gossiping about a mutual friend. You hate being in the middle, but of course you still text her back your two cents to try to keep the peace.

Then, you get to work and the  newspaper is on your desk and the cover story is about the economy and how you might be out of a job, oh and there’s a rapist on the lose so be careful going to your car tonight! You think …I better bring my MACE!

Then you attempt to start working, but your desk has 5 million sticky notes all over it, piles of things to be filed, and your desktop has so many folders you can barely see the face of your child   on the monitor’s wallpaper.

You attempt to get some work done, but you get an instant message from your co-worker two cubicles down who is complaining about her husband again who cheats but she never leaves him anyhow….

How are you feeling now? Not too good eh?

OH…I FORGOT TO MENTION,  it’s only 11:30am!

Does this feel even somewhat familiar? Well..start to think about your  basic day- to- day interactions that  shift your mood that you HAVE control over. What can you do to cut down or avoid these things, if even for ONE WEEK?

KNOW THAT YOU HAVE CONTROL!

HERE ARE  SOME BASIC TIPS TO START A MENTAL CLEANSE – You don’t have to escape to the mountains of Peru for a week, there are some things you can do right now to gain some peace of mind.

  1. Start to check your email only 2xs a day. Don’t look at the phone for emails either!
  2.  Let voice mail do it’s job. If you answer the phone every time it rings you’ll always be on the phone and never get anything done.
  3. Cut down on social media.
  4. Stay away from gossip or negative people who try to bring you into their drama. See number 2. LOL
  5. Do not watch or read the NEWS! Even for 2 days and see how you feel…

When you start to cut out the unnecessary distractions you’ll have more time. Use that to do call a family member you haven’t checked on in a while, write thank you letters to clients and mentors one day a week. In the next 4 weeks I want you to cut down on something a little bit more each week and see how you feel?

What will your ONE THING BE? Take a moment to think about it…

IT’S YOUR JOB TO MAINTAIN YOUR BOUNDARIES. Remember you train people how to treat you and respect your time.  LEARN HOW TO AVOID MENTAL CLUTTER by doing a mind cleanse even a few days a week and you’ll see a huge difference in your life. You’ll become more effective and yes…happier!

The Flintstone Challenge

BY: Jamison Hollister, E-Myth Business Coach

Leadership takes courage.

If you are not equipped to face the challenges of ownership, your business will quickly become an unrewarding chore, rather than a joyful expression of who you are and what you want to bring to the world.

How equipped are you to face these challenges?

Think about why you started your company in the first place. It was more than the desire to create a job for yourself. You wanted to build something that you owned! Whether it was ownership of your life, the desire to stand back and watch proudly as you brought value to the world with a business you built with your own hands, or even the adventure of breaking free from the 9-5 life, you wanted to be accountable to no one but yourself.

But that freedom comes at a price. It means that you can’t push the blame on someone else when things aren’t going according to plan. It means that you are the one who answers when a mistake is made. It means that the choices you make hold the greatest kind of weight because you own the consequences.

It’s a difficult truth that the overwhelm so many business owners endure is actually a result of their desire to be free from that very thing! In a pursuit of absolute ownership, the business owner has created his or her own greatest obstacle – the obligation to know everything, when it’s impossible for them to do so. Succumbing to this obligation in your business will leave you ineffective at best, and underwater at worst.

Be Courageous!

The word ‘courage’ comes from the Latin root ‘cor,’ meaning heart or innermost feelings. Somehow, over time, it has come to be associated with fearlessness.

Attempting to live without fear is often held as a virtue. This is ridiculous! It is futile. Fear is a part of being human.

The fear of making mistakes in your business.

The fear of not knowing all the answers.

The fear of what others think.

Courage is about feeling fear and not being stopped by it. Fear is a reason to act, not a reason to avoid what really needs to be done.

A Story of Courage

Here’s an example of the kind of courage it takes to run a small business.

Jill, a client of mine, is a dentist who came to E-Myth because she was attracted to the idea of systemizing her practice and making the franchise prototype that would allow her to open up new offices throughout her state and across the country. She had worked hard as a dentist for over 10 years, but somehow – somewhere along the way – had lost enthusiasm for the practice and was getting seriously burned out.

She wanted transformation.

The Challenging Part

The first thing Jill had to realize was that her transformation had to start with her own mindset and point of view.

She was trained in school to be an expert technician, a highly-skilled dentist. But that expertise alone was not enough to sustain her passion for the work.

I knew that in order to reignite Jill’s passion for the business, she would have to tear down the barriers that were removing the joy she originally felt. In order to do that, she had to recognize how she was actually contributing to the issues.

This was a struggle.

She was very outer-directed when we discussed what wasn’t working with her business. Everything was always someone else’s fault: her employees weren’t committed or were incompetent; her patients wouldn’t cooperate. For quite some time, she wasn’t willing to look at how she was a part of the problem. She had to face the fear and feel the pain of recognizing where she was wrong before she could make the right changes in her business.

It wasn’t until she gained the courage to question her long-held assumptions that things really started to shift. The more we talked about this from the E-Myth Point of View, the more Jill began to see the impact her distorted perspective was having on the business. She recalled times in the past when she’d had a different, more positive attitude, and when she’d had more energy, more enthusiasm, and was much more proactive about making things happen. Over time, Jill began to rekindle and re-awaken to a more productive point of view, and that started to open up a new world of possibility for herself and her people.

Whereas before she had seen only problems and frustrations in her business, she began to frame the same situations as opportunities for improvement and innovation.
